Young Enterprise Scotland (YES) has today (24 February 2016) launched a new social enterprise which will provide landscaping and ground maintenance services whilst giving young people their first taste of the workplace.

The initiative will provide a further service as part of YES which has operated in Scotland as a charity since 1992. YES Works is based inside Rouken Glen Park and delivers high quality landscaping, ground maintenance and construction services for clients across the public, third and private sectors.

The new business will connect youths seeking work experience opportunities with businesses and therefore develop their skills for entering the world of work.

Geoff Leask, chief executive of Young Enterprise Scotland, said:

"Our new social enterprise is a very welcome addition to the Young Enterprise Scotland stable. It will provide real life work opportunities for the young people participating on our Pathway programmes whilst providing a great service for the local community and generating income to benefit the charity - a winning situation for everyone."

Launched in 2016, YES Works aspires to become recognised as one of the country's most innovative social enterprises, providing jobs and skills for up and coming trades people, as well as assisting them in developing their own businesses. Its ultimate aim is to become a major funder of all of Young Enterprise Scotland's activities.

"Yes Works is a unique opportunity that allows young people to undertake projects within their chosen sector and deliver great results for real clients while working with our skilled team to grow and strengthen their skills" added Leask

"We are always looking to develop innovative initiatives to inspire young people and position Scotland as having the most entrepreneurial and enterprising young people in the country."

Leading disability organisation Capability Scotland has already experienced the work of Yes Works first-hand and was impressed by the skill and professionalism shown by the youngsters.

Meghan McEwan, service coordinator for Capability Scotland, said: "We received funding to upgrade garden paths and erect an outdoor learning area.

"From initial approach to the completion of the project we have been delighted with the service and quality of work. The YES Works team who were appointed to our project came out to our centre, listened to our ideas and gave us some valuable advice."

"We would definitely recommend YES Works for any further work being carried out at our centre or other centres within the organisation."
